Dr. Thut completed his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Rochester, New York. He then dedicated seven years to practicing general orthopedics between the Naval Hospitals in Charleston, South Carolina where he was medical director, and Bremerton, Washington where he was department head of orthopedic surgery. Dr. Thut returned to New York in 2008 to earn a sports medicine fellowship at the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases.

While in New York, he was involved with the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries working with such world-renowned dance companies as the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Board certified with a subspecialty in sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Thut treats all orthopedic conditions and specializes in sports medicine. He has privileges atat Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover and Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
