Preparing For Surgery

The following recommendations apply to all patients scheduled for outpatient surgery:

  • For your comfort and safety, please follow these instructions carefully.
  • Stop all anti-inflammatory medications and aspirin 7 days before surgery. If you take coumadin or another blood thinner because of heart problems, previous stroke, or other significant medical history, you must discuss when and how to stop these medications with your primary medical doctor.
  • If you develop an infection, cold, flu, sore throat, fever or a new medical problem in the week before your surgery, please call your physician immediately. This may necessitate delaying your surgery in order to prevent any undue risks to you.
  • If you need to cancel or delay your surgery for any reason, please do so at least seven days in advance in order that others can be scheduled in your place.
  • You will be contacted by the hospital on the day prior to your surgery to notify you about what time to arrive at the hospital.
