Dr. Blitzer graduated from the Boston University accelerated combined AB/MD program in 1979. He completed an internship in general surgery at Bay State Medical Center, an affiliate of Tufts University, and an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Vermont from 1980 to 1984. During 1983, he trained at the Montreal Children's Hospital/McGill University as a pediatric orthopedic resident.
Dr. Blitzer is on staff at both Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH and Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NH. He also has privileges at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, NH. He is a member of the New England Trauma Study Group and the Arthroscopic Association of North America. He has special interests in the care of fractures and in arthroscopic surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has published articles on skiing injuries, arthroscopy, and fractures.
