Women’s Sports Medicine Program Launches in Portsmouth

Jennifer Hopp, MD, CAQSM, a board-certified sports medicine physician, has joined Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and Wentworth Health Partners Seacoast Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. Dr. Hopp will lead the new Women’s Sports Medicine Program located at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Portsmouth Outpatient Center – 67 Corporate Drive, Building A. Dr. Hopp will provide focused sports medicine care for Seacoast women of all ages, including high school and college athletes, cyclists, runners, triathletes and “weekend warriors.” She will also be a Team Physician for the University of New Hampshire Wildcats.

Dr. Hopp has nearly ten years of clinical practice experience in primary care and sports medicine.  She earned her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville.  She then completed a family medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania followed by a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital. During her fellowship, Dr. Hopp served as Team Physician at Rice University and George Bush High School, and provided medical support to participants in the Houston Marathon, Ironman Championship and the Houston Rodeo.

Dr. Hopp most recently cared for patients at HCA VA Sports Medicine in Richmond, Va.; as a Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician where she also worked as a Team Physician for the University of Richmond and local high school and youth soccer teams.  She also served as a Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician at the Chippenham Primary Group and Ironbridge Primary Group. Dr. Hopp is experienced in caring for athletes on the sideline, concussion management, joint injections, ultrasound guided injections, platelet-rich plasma injections, casting/splinting, nutrition guidance, as well as general musculoskeletal injuries.

The new Women’s Sports Medicine Program is part of the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. The program will focus on the unique musculoskeletal needs of women and girls of all ages and athletic abilities.

“Research has shown that women and girls may be more susceptible to certain sports-related injuries,” says Dr. Hopp. “As female athletes of all ages excel in their sports more than ever, I am so pleased to join Wentworth-Douglass and expand on their services to launch a program solely dedicated to the needs of female athletes.”
