Sports Medicine

The physicians at Seacoast Orthopedics & Sports Medicine have served as leaders in sports medicine for more than 30 years. The University of New Hampshire have chosen SOSMed physicians as their official team physician group and have designated them as their official orthopedists in recognition of the advanced training of our medical providers and our ability to understand the complexities of sports injuries.

Physician Evaluation Following a Sports Injury

Due to the unpredictable nature of sports injuries, SOSMed physicians have time blocked in their schedules each week dedicated to sports injury evaluations. Immediately following a sports injury, calling the office will ensure an appointment within 1-2 days of injury or even sooner, depending on the injury.

Services

SOSMed provides medical evaluation and procedures (surgical and non-surgical) for athletes at every level including:

  • Arthroscopic surgery
  • Cartilage restoration surgery
  • Foot and ankle surgery
  • Fractures and musculoskeletal trauma
  • Hand surgery
  • Joint replacement surgery
  • Post concussion evaluation and management
  • Pre-sport screenings
  • Shoulder and elbow surgery
  • Spine surgery

Women’s Sports Medicine

Women’s Sports Medicine Program

Research has shown that women and girls may be more susceptible to certain sports-related injuries, such as those in the hips, knees, and shoulders. As female athletes of all ages excel in their sports more than ever, we are also expanding our services to include a program dedicated to women’s sports medicine.  The Women’s Sports Medicine Program at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Portsmouth Outpatient Center will provide focused sports medicine care for women of all ages and abilties, including high school and college athletes, cyclists, runners, triathletes and “weekend warriors.”

Collaboration

SOSMed physicians have a longstanding reputation in the community of being highly collaborative, working closely with local hospitals, surgical centers, trainers, physical therapists, rehab specialists, and associate physician offices to ensure that patients and athletes receive the most comprehensive care. The primary goal is to get athletes back to enjoying sports and the activities they love, quickly but safely, both on the competitive and recreational levels.
