EVENT: Shoulder Problems in the Weekend Athlete

Join us to learn about common overuse injuries and acute shoulder injuries in the weekend athlete. Rotator cuff tendonitis and tears are one of the most common reasons patients come to see orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Mark Cullen’s talk will address nonoperative and operative treatment of rotator cuff problems along with multiple other acute shoulder injuries.

This talk is for active individuals, covering shoulder problems common to cyclists, mountain bikers, kayakers, surfers, weight lifters, tennis players, golfers, swimmers, skiers, cross country skiers, snowboarders, to name a few.

Dr. Mark Cullen joins Wentworth Health Partners Seacoast Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in July and will see patients in both Somersworth and at our new Portsmouth Outpatient Center.

He was born in Natick, Massachusetts and grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania. After his orthopaedic surgery residency, he completed a prestigious sports medicine fellowship in advanced arthroscopic surgery and complex knee ligament reconstruction with Frank Noyes, MD in Cincinnati, OH.

Dr. Cullen has been the team physician for numerous high schools and club sports teams throughout his career in Atlanta and Oregon. In recognition for his contributions to youth and high school sports in Atlanta, he was awarded the prestigious Southeastern Athletic Trainers Association Jack Hughson Sports Medicine Person of the Year.

He specializes in and has surgical expertise in advanced arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery and complex knee ligament reconstructions. His surgical practice focuses on arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery, labral repair and shoulder stabilization along with ACL and revision ACL ligament reconstructions. Having had four shoulder surgeries himself, he understands what an injury means to his patients and the time and dedication to rehabilitation it takes to recover from surgery.

Dr. Cullen is on staff at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover and Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He works closely with athletic trainers at local high schools and is a team Physician and orthopaedic consultant for University of New Hampshire Wildcats.

Ryan Higgins, MPT, OMT – Ryan has been practicing Outpatient Physical Therapy for 21 years. He graduated Masters of Physical Therapy in 1998 from California State University, Fresno. He has also completed a two-year residency and fellowship program through the Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy in Woburn, Mass.

Ryan specialize in treatment of the spine, but treats all other orthopedic joints and ailments.

Has been with Wentworth Douglass Rehabiliation Services Outpatient Physical Therapy in Dover since September of 2018 after working in private practice.
